I am mindful of the privilege it is to travel. Mykonos friend Jim took a trip I took two times. The first time was in 1974. Fresh in my mind was the songs of John Denver calling to see the Rockies. I had been to California two years earlier cross country and returned by air. This time I would be hiking the back trails. On my earlier trip I remember a brief side hike in a canyon when I got to the the top I was feet from a black bear. He paid me no mind as I quietly climbed back down.
In 74 I recall traveling with four wonderful girls to meet up with a larger group. In South Dakota the girls slept in a car and I slept end in a field under the stars. To my surprise I woke up with stark to the sound of 100's of prairie dogs. Jim and Donna's picture I will enlarge and put on my wall remind me. They wake up at 4:15 am by the way.
The photo on the right is the horns of the alter recovered in 1976 in Beersheba, Israel. Today it is in a British Museum. I was studying in the summer of 1976 with my new bride and visited the sight where the discovery was made. They were actually removing it from a wall while I was looking on. Young king Josiah destroyed the alters because it had trend into idolatry. They took the stones and put them in a wall waiting 2700 years to be put back together again. Now we have an idea what the alter looked like in Jerusalem. Touching history like that was a high for me.
Thanks for those of you who shared your trips, virtually I got into it. One of the reasons I like to walk is the idea to ready for future journeys. Keep walking
