Welcome to Walk With the Man blog. Thanks to google blogs I have been able to blog part of my journey to healthy living. My beautiful wife has encouraged me all the way. When I decided to pursue health a little over 5 years ago I made several changes that has really made a difference.
  1. I learned to eat the three quarter plate
  2. 5 is fine 9 is divine number of servings of fruits and veggies
  3. Walk an aerobic walk at least 5 times a week
  4. Strength train twice a week
  5. Stretch every day
  6. Get involve with GP on preventative medicine
What I found along the way other problems would have to be dealt with along the way.
  1. Recover from an operation where I lost a 1/3 of my lower intestine
  2. Three eye diseases that I had to sit down to recover.
  3. Minor setbacks with flues, colds, strep throats
  4. Heal spur that made it painful to move, then an ankle that after 58 years of a particular CP gate develops chronic pain. This issue has been relieved through an orthodic brace that helps place my ankle in away that doesn't pinch my nerve.
  5. Other joint issues do to far to many falls in my life.
  6. Despite my best efforts to deal with anxiety attacks and depression I needed help to deal with these problems.
  7. For three weeks I had vertigo which put me on the sidelines.
Will I run again, I don't think so
but fast walks with the same benefits
Yes
Why am I optimistic. I have had setbacks and restarts but most the time I am walking and eating right. I have moved from a pre-diabetic to healthy blood numbers. I have lowered my weight and blood presser. I have been able to maintain aerobic walks which have helped my  cardio-health. I am stronger and more flexible today as well. Every problem I had I sought help of physical therapists, doctors, Psychiatrists and psychologists and tackled each problem as best I could. Still on the agnda is lowering my weight more and keeping it off.

My journey has resulted in a five year class I taught in the Bible and health and studies in the Life of Christ as a walker. This work will result in a web page where I will share my studies for people to be encouraged that God cares for their health.

Despite my problems life has been better for me  choosing to live better. I am confident my days lived will be more full and even maybe a few years longer. For example I have overcome my depression and have learned many ways to deal with my anxiety. I wouldn't have done it with out the help of pros that got involved with me. I am looking forward to living like the sun is shinning rather than the darkness of gloom of depressed lies.

The fat man walking is far from a perfect man.  I am flawed and still have goals to reach. I will never look twenty again, but I have learned and experienced normal sleep of 7-9 hours a day. I am back with people helping them everyday and doing my best work at work. I have never learned to live in the moment like am doing today. I am doing push-ups and sit ups again. I have lost 40 lbs but I am ready to continue the growth to lose more.

We don't know the future but deciding on a healthy diet, exercise, seeking medical care are all the right things to do as we age. Get the most out of your life, come walk with the fat man.

New to the blog are great web sights you can visit to help you visualized how Jesus walked, strengthen your spiritual health and get ideas about your physical health. Included now are ideas about walking and strength training. Good links and a page on books I reconmend will increase your information about spiritual and physical health.
Let me know what you think; I hope to make the program easy to send to your friends. If you have picture let me know if I can use them. If you have thoughts, experiences research that fits what I talk about, email it to me and I will look it over and publish it. It would be cool to have multi authors on the blog.
