To my fellow CP friends

In a discussion with a medical friend of mine I postulate it that there is a little research about cerebral palsy in later life, because for the most part people with cerebral palsy probably have economic hardships. Where there is no money there usually is little interest in research. You may think I am being a little cynical but it is theory? Note the following quote: "That being said, there has been little research and attention devoted to adults with cerebral palsy, and the knowledge within this population is limited (Peterson, Gordon and Hurvitz, 2012). As a result, adults with cerebral palsy are poorly understood, which makes it challenging to prevent health complications and facilitate right treatment (Peterson, Ryan, Hurvitz & Mahmoudi, 2015). This has implications in daily life as well, where public spaces and gyms often are poorly facilitated, creating a barrier to participation. The focus here will be on recommended activities, but it’s important to keep in mind that there is still a lot of work to be done in terms of removing participation barriers (Jahnsen 2005)." https://blog.madeformovement.com/physical-therapy-for-adults-with-cerebral-palsy In the past few years, I have had to come to terms with changes in my body related to cerebral palsy, that I did not anticipate. Changes did not happen overnight so gradually I started to have more difficulties. I think when I am learning may have applications to similar challenges that all of us face when we get older. But for the kid in the wheelchair or braces impaired by cerebral palsy, there is a uniqueness. Here are some of my current strategies that I am working on: At home walking Recumbent biking which I strongly recommend for those who have cerebral palsy. You may have to have some type of strap to help you to stay on the peddles. Sitting chair exercises Walking stairs Soon I am recovering from right arm injury soon I will be back to resistance training and body exercises. I am eating to lose weight Longterm I want to research about cerebral palsy and report my findings so that people can become more aware. I especially want to encourage those who have cerebral palsy and are getting older. I hear you.
